Zelenskyy said that the ceasefire in Ukraine should not mean a freeze on the war

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the country will not be able to live in a state of frozen conflict because it needs reliable and concrete security guarantees.

He said this at a press conference in Brussels on December 19.

«We must understand that we cannot live with a frozen conflict. When it comes to a ceasefire in any conflict, any war, people know what will happen after, how it will all end. You need to know what will happen tomorrow in order to make a ceasefire today. Otherwise, you are simply making a frozen conflict. Therefore, Ukraine needs security guarantees and a strong position», said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Following this comment, the president was asked about Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his proposal for a Christmas ceasefire.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that he had not spoken with Orban and called such initiatives regarding the lives of Ukrainians frivolous and more like political PR.

«With all due respect… Mr. Prime Minister has no mandate for negotiations. His relations with Putin are too warm to put Putin in his place», the president said.

As a reminder, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that he had proposed to Ukraine and Russia a ceasefire for Christmas and a large-scale prisoner exchange, but President Volodymyr Zelenskyy allegedly refused these proposals.
