The «Russian Film» Festival was held in France, during which Serhii Parajanov's film «Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors» was presented as part of «Russian culture». The Embassy of Ukraine in France has already contacted the local Ministry of Culture.

This is reported by the online publication Ukrinform.

The incident happened in two French cities: Paris and Tavern. The film «Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors», which was shown under the name «Fiery Horses», included in its program the so-called «Russian Film» Festival, which was organized by the «Other Russia» association.

«Culture continues to be cynically used to legitimize Russian aggression. It is known that for years this «Russian film» festival relied on the support of the Russian authorities. It is obvious that, despite the seemingly formal change of emphasis by the organizers, their methods in many respects remain unchanged,» the Ukrainian embassy told journalists.

Diplomats emphasized that this is a case of cultural appropriation, so they are asking the French authorities to deal with the situation and restore justice.

«We believe that even in these turbulent times, despite the violence on the part of the current government, it is necessary to continue to protect and promote Russian culture, in particular, in the field of cinema,» says the invitation text of the festival organizers.

We will remind that from March 14, the Oscar-winning film «20 Days in Mariupol» by Mstyslav Chernov will be shown at the Multiplex cinema in Mykolaiv.
