A bicycle race and the opening of the Danish Solidarity Square took place on the occasion of the Mykolaiv City Day

Today, September 14, Mykolaiv hosted a bicycle race and the grand opening of the Danish Solidarity Square, timed to the City Day. The event brought together residents and guests of the city, as well as international partners who support Mykolaiv in its recovery and development.
This was reported by the correspondent of NikVesti.
The cycling race, which started from the Regional Palace of Culture and finished at the 8th Pier. During the opening of the park, a representative of the Danish embassy, Jens Alsbrick, expressed hope that Mykolaiv will become a cycling city similar to Copenhagen:
«We are Danes, we love our bicycles and we believe that Copenhagen is the bicycle capital of the world. And we hope that Mykolaiv will also become such a cycling city, where people will ride to work or study on bicycles and it will become a normal part of our lives,» he said.
Jens Alsbrik also shared his memories of his first visit to Mykolaiv in January 2023:
«I remember that the city was dark, cold, and the impression of it was not at all the same as it is now. Now I am happy that the city is flourishing, and we, the embassy, are very supportive of this direction, this development,» noted the representative of the embassy.
Head of the Office of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Mykolaiv, Jacob Hansen, emphasized the importance of Denmark's cooperation with Mykolaiv.
«What we do here in Mykolaiv is not charity, it is partnership. We see the Mykolaiv region and the city of Mykolaiv as future partners of our country. Our recovery program will allow us to rebuild the city in any way, it all depends on your will,» he said.
During the event, a memorandum was signed between Mykolaiv, the Novo Nordisk company and the Danish embassy on the city's joining the Healthy Living Cities program, which is aimed at preventing chronic diseases and promoting a healthy lifestyle. As Vladyslav Moroz noted, one of the first steps was the delivery of 30 professional balls for the children's sports school of the Olympic Reserve. The head of Mykolayiv OVA Vitaly Kim spoke about the importance of sports for future generations.
«Sports are good habits for achieving success. I wish everyone success, great results and encourage you to join sports,» said Vitalii Kim.
The mayor of Mykolaiv Oleksandr Sienkevych congratulated everyone on the holiday and expressed hope for a peaceful future.
«I wanted to wish all of you today that we celebrate the next birthday of our city on the square with a big concert in a peaceful Ukraine that will defeat the Russian enemy. Happy holiday to you, Happy City Day!» he said.
The Danish Solidarity Square has become a symbol of friendship and support between Denmark and Mykolaiv. Honorary Consul of Denmark Mykola Kapatsyna emphasized the importance of this cooperation.
«The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, often says that Denmark adopted Mykolaiv. We should be grateful to our friends who supported us in difficult times and supported us,» he said.
