The number of charging stations for electric vehicles in Mykolaiv is planned to increase to 40. Currently, there are 23 such stations in the city.

This was announced during a briefing on 2 December by Mykola Lohvinov, director of «Mykolaivoblteploenergo», NikVesti.

«We currently have 23 of them, and we have plans to expand further. We have won a tender for large, powerful plants that we will install next year. But when we talk about stations, it's not about profitability, it's about infrastructure development,» said Lohvinov.

He added that the number of charging stations will start increasing next year, with plans to install 17 more across the city.

«The payback period of the stations is 7-8 years. So this is not a quick story, but it is slowly developing. And I hope that we will increase the number of stations to 40, so that all districts of the city will have the opportunity to charge. But when you set up a station, you need to lay asphalt, make markings, and approve the scheme. This is also a resource that we unfortunately lack. Therefore, we will expand, but next year, in 2027. We planned to install 15 more points this year, but we lack the funds,» added the director of the regional heating company.

Earlier, the director of «Mykolaivoblteploenergo» reported that a total of 55 charging stations are planned to be installed, and the cost of one will be about 80 thousand hryvnias. Lohvinov explained that this would be a social project so that the company could earn money with minimal profitability. In 2024, 20 such stations were installed in Mykolaiv for 1.3 million hryvnias.

Also in 2024, the deputies of the Mykolaiv City Council approved a four-year programme for the development of electric charging infrastructure, which aims to increase the number of electric vehicles and reduce harmful air emissions.

And by the end of 2025, the utility company «Mykolaivoblteploenergo» promised to equip all electric vehicle charging stations with video cameras.
