Mykolaiv and Kherson authorities prepare project to restore backup road to Kherson

The authorities of Mykolaiv and Kherson regions are working to restore an alternative route to Kherson, as the main road is under constant shelling by Russian troops.

The head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitaliy Kim, said this during a live telethon.

«This is a difficult issue. Due to the proximity to the frontline, the enemy is actively shelling the Mykolaiv — Kherson road. It is covered with nets, but despite this, the Russians continue to shoot at civilian vehicles. Therefore, we believe that other ways of access to Kherson need to be developed,» he said.

According to the head of the RMA, the documents for the restoration of the additional road have already been submitted. The project is planned to be implemented at the expense of funding from the reserve fund after agreement with the Ministry of Economy, Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko and the Ministry of Infrastructure.

«This issue is currently being worked on,» added Vitalii Kim.

The difficult situation on the Kherson road has been widely reported since July 2025. The key road connecting Kherson with the northern suburbs, which is used by most people travelling in this direction, is being attacked by various types of drones.

In August, traffic on the M-14 Kherson-Mykolaiv highway was temporarily blocked in case of Russian drone sightings. It also became known that the Russian military attacked a prosecutor's office vehicle with a drone.
