Trump announces the creation of the Office of Shipbuilding in the White House. Illustrative photoUS President Donald Trump has told Congress that his administration will create a White House Office of Shipbuilding and offer new tax incentives for the sector.
He made the announcement in a speech to Congress on 4 March.
According to him, the US plans to revive both commercial and military shipbuilding.
«To strengthen our defence industrial base, we will also revive the American shipbuilding industry, including both commercial and military shipbuilding. And to that end, I'm announcing today that we will create a new White House Office of Shipbuilding and offer special tax incentives to bring this industry back home to America where it belongs», he said.
Donald Trump noted that the shipbuilding industry «will have a huge impact» for the United States.
«We used to build a lot of ships. Now we hardly build any, but soon we will build very fast. This will have a huge impact», he added.
Last year, during the conference «Mykolaiv — a city on the wave», the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, called on the citizens of Mykolaiv to abandon illusions about restoring the city's former shipbuilding capacity, stressing that they should focus on future opportunities rather than on dreams of the past.
It was also reported that the company «Nibulon» has declared its readiness to produce ships for any purpose, including government and military orders.
In 2014, the tugboat «NIBULON-5» was launched in Mykolaiv, which became the first vessel built at the «Nibulon» shipyard.
