Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said he had proposed a ceasefire for Christmas and a large-scale prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia, but President Volodymyr Zelenskyy allegedly rejected these proposals.

Viktor Orban wrote about this on the social network X (Twitter).

He commented on the tweet of the President of Ukraine, in which Zelenskyy reacted sharply to the conversation between the Hungarian Prime Minister and the President of the Russian Federation.

The Prime Minister noted that at the end of the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the EU, Budapest made new efforts to «achieve peace.»

«We proposed a Christmas truce and a large-scale prisoner exchange. It is sad that President Zelenskyy today clearly rejected and ruled this out. We did everything we could,» Viktor Orbán wrote.

However, Viktor Orban did not write anything about whether he made such a proposal to Vladimir Putin, and what his reaction was.

As a reminder, Viktor Orban believes that Europe will not be able to finance Ukraine's defense without US support under Donald Trump. If the Americans stop helping Ukraine, it will become a challenge for Europe.
