Ukrenergo explained how long it would take to stabilise the electricity situation after the Russian attack. Illustrative photo: NikVestiIt will take several weeks to improve the electricity supply situation after the massive Russian attack on the night of 6 December.
This was announced by Vitalii Zaichenko, Chairman of the Board of «Ukrenergo».
According to him, the current duration of blackouts in most regions is not 8 hours, but many times longer.
«Unfortunately, outages in most regions last not up to 8 hours, but probably up to 12-16 hours. Today, we should have just such schedules of 4 to 8 hours. However, due to the power grid strikes, the duration of blackouts has increased,» said Vitalii Zaichenko.
Zaichenko noted that power crews are working to restore the grid, but the extent of the damage will take more time.
«The situation is quite difficult and in the near future... we are talking not about days, but about weeks when we will need to restore,» said the Chairman of the Board of «Ukrenergo».
The official is convinced that consumers themselves can improve the situation.
«Reduce consumption, use the most energy-intensive appliances only at night or when the weather is very sunny,» he said.
Earlier, the Ministry of Energy reported that on the night of 6 December, the Russian military launched a massive missile and drone strike on electricity generation, distribution and transmission facilities in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Lviv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regions. As a result of the attack, consumers in Odesa, Chernihiv, Kyiv, and Kharkiv regions are without power in the morning, the ministry said.
As a reminder, further power cuts are planned for Mykolaiv and the region on Sunday, 7 December. Depending on the priority, some consumers may be left without power for up to 17 hours.
