In October, the Russian army significantly intensified its air attacks against Ukraine, sharply increasing the number of strikes with guided aerial bombs.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

Thus, in the second month of autumn alone, the Russian army dropped more than 5,328 guided aerial bombs (KABs) on the positions of Ukrainian troops and frontline settlements. The ministry notes that this is the highest number of strikes per month since the beginning of 2025.

The military also emphasises that the use of aerial bombs has already reached the level of the whole of last year. In the first 10 months of 2025, Russian aviation used approximately 40,000 KABs, the same number as in the whole of 2024.

On 16 October, the Russians attacked Mykolaiv for the first time with two KABs. According to military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko, these were not ordinary guided bombs, but high-speed systems with a jet engine of the «Grom-1» type, capable of covering a distance of 120-150 km and flying at a speed of over 500 km/h. The launch was carried out from an altitude of about 9,500 metres.

Later, Vitalii Kim told how Mykolaiv region is defending itself against the strikes of the KABs.

Poltava region was among the first to be hit by the KABs. According to the Air Force, on 20 October, a bomb fell 20-30 kilometres from Poltava. And yesterday, on 24 October, two of the three guided bombs launched by the Russian army were shot down for the first time in Odesa region.
