Mykolaiv to spend ₴600 thousand on renovating two more classroms for the «Defence of Ukraine»

In Mykolaiv, Lyceum №55 plans to renovate two additional classrooms to teach the subject «Defence of the Fatherland» at an expected cost of 609,000 hryvnias.

The relevant tender was published on the Prozorro portal, according to NikVesti.

The head of the education department, Hanna Lychko, said that on 1 September 2025, «Defence of Ukraine» branches were opened in the city on the basis of three schools: Lyceum №55, Lyceum №38 and Lyceum named after Oleh Olzhych. Each centre had three classrooms.

- We equipped three classrooms each at Lyceum №55 and Olzhych Lyceum, and four at Lyceum named after Chaika. After analysing the situation, we came to the conclusion that to improve the quality of education, it would be advisable to expand the classrooms in Lyceum №55 with two more, especially since Lyceum №55 had classrooms that could be used for the «Defence of Ukraine». We are constantly analysing the situation. If there is an opportunity to improve the work of the centres, we use it. In general, this is enough for all institutions, but since this is a new approach, regular monitoring and improvement is necessary,» explained Hanna Lychko.

The renovation and arrangement of the classrooms is scheduled to be completed by 1 December 2025.

As you know, on 1 September, schools in Mykolaiv introduced the subject «Defence of Ukraine» for students in grades 10-11. In the classroom, high school students will learn medical care, warfare tactics, cybersecurity, drone control and the basics of using weapons.

High school students must travel to the centres on their own. The subject «Defence of Ukraine» will be studied once or twice a week, which will take one full day.
